Here’s a sample of what you might be in for!

Arrive in Tokyo and transfer by Limousine Bus directly to your hotel.

You will receive an orientation pack on arrival. Unpack and settle in.

Day one 

This morning we meet for a welcome breakfast and local orientation.

Following this we visit the food hall at Isetan department store. Wander the aisles and marvel at the displays of prepared meals, cakes, desserts, seafood, meats, fruit and vegetables and typical Japanese snacks.

Lunch is at a nearby tempura restaurant in Shinjuku.

Optional: Enjoy a sake tasting in the early evening and learn all about the different varieties.

Dinner tonight is at a modern kaiseki restaurant with many small, delicious courses. There is also an excellent sake list here.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day two

Rise and shine. We start the day with an early trip to Tsukiji market for a breakfast of chirashi sushi.

Next, we visit the Tsukiji Fish Market as they complete business for the day, then wander the inner and outer market stalls.

Lunch is at a famous tonkatsu restaurant in the Nishi-Azabu neighbourhood.

The rest of the afternoon is free for you to enjoy. You could take the metro to Naka-Meguro for a walk along the canal where there are many cafes and boutique shops.

Dinner tonight is at an innovative izakaya in the back streets of Roppongi.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day three

This morning we go to Asakusa, home of the Kannon Temple. Visit the laneways where you will see traditional restaurants with plastic window displays of their menu on show.

We then stroll to Kappabashi, kitchen town, where you can purchase hand-crafted knives, crockery and all things kitchen related.

Lunch is a quick taxi ride to Nezu, dining at a traditional udon restaurant.

Optional: Join us, prior to dinner, to sample a selection of Japanese oysters along with a glass of wine.

Tonight’s dinner is at a lively seafood izakaya which has links to Tsukiji seafood market. You will enjoy some of the freshest fish to be found.

After dinner you may want to head into Roppongi or Akasaka for a nightcap.

Day four

This morning is free for you to explore before we head to Shinjuku for lunch. Here we join the queue at a fabulous one star Michelin restaurant serving a lunch special of sardines prepared four ways.

After lunch we go to Omote-Sando for a tea tasting. Learn about Japanese tea and sample a selection of wagashi, traditional Japanese sweets.

The rest of the afternoon is free for you to enjoy. You could spend time in the back streets of Omote-Sando or take the metro to Yoyogi-Koen to explore.

We meet again in the evening for a pre-dinner snack at a casual standing bar in Akasaka, before heading to a popular yakitori restaurant for dinner.

Lunch, tea and wagashi tasting, pre-dinner snack, dinner.

Day five

Join Sue and Janice at their apartment to sample different grades of wagyu beef. There may be one or two other ingredients to try.

We then head to Roppongi, stopping at a takoyaki bar followed by lunch at a restaurant specialising in miso.

The afternoon is free for you to explore on your own or do some last minute shopping.

In the early evening we head to the Andaz Tokyo Hotel for a pre-dinner drink and watch the sun go down and the lights go on over Tokyo from their 52nd floor open-air bar.

Tonight’s farewell dinner is at a top sushi restaurant in Ginza.
